Swan Song and So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish!

Swan Song

After a long time a bitter sweet triumph came today when our Ratings & Review Facebook app  that was developed by BazaarVoice finally went live. One more item to check off the to do list before I transition on August 5th to my new work from home life.

I recently read a pretty cool Blog on the BazaarVoice site about sharing. I think I probably fall under the Boomerang bucket but I am not crazy how it is defined.

4. Boomerangs

Thrilled by the reaction of others to the content they share, Boomerangs are even happy with negative responses. They’re after validation, and they employ Facebook, email, Twitter, and blogs without a strong preference for any one of them.

So Long

I keep getting invited to conference calls and have to resist the urge to decline them with the response, “Sorry not in my realm anymore”. Have been training a co-worker who is going to have to shoulder the burden I am leaving behind. I think six months after this he will send me an IM exclaiming how much he hates me. If you are reading this you know who you are and I am sorry to dump it all on you.

I was thinking I might get some of my coworkers a parting gift. One book comes to mind:

So Long and Thanks for all the fish!

I thought it would be quite humorous though not sure non techie/ sci-fi geeks would get it.

Feel free to send me your thoughts!

The cat is out of the Bag or the Cat is the Bag…

The cat is out of the bag

Well the rumor of my departure has made it around the building at work. For the most part what I actually said when putting in my notice is what people know. However there are a few things that I heard which I will not repeat because those people who started them are just plain ridiculous. Starting vicious rumors about people that call into question their moral fiber and business ethics is repugnant. People that do that should go back to high school. Enough said about that.

The Cat is the Bag

Boxes of office supplies have been trickling in over the past week as I get ready to start my at home career. Last night I decided to clean off the mountain of junk I had accumulated on the desk and start hooking up the gadgets. I setup wifi for the printer, configured the laptop, downloaded MS Office, read some email, made some photo copies for my 8 year old who wanted to test the shiny new printer insisting his crayon masterpiece was the perfect test and threw the brown paper bag of office supplies I purchased on top when I was done.

Hours later a little past midnight I was finally ready to lay down and go to sleep. My little monkey the 21 month old was fast asleep in the room. I started to doze off when I thought I heard an animal noise and then some rustling. I turned over and looked toward the desk and there is was in the moonlight in front of the window. A cat! Holy shit I thought how the hell did a cat get in my room. The door is closed has it been in the closet for hours. The boys must have let that darn stray in again. (Yes there really was a stray cat who has been coming around so my reaction was not completely mental.) I slowly got out of bed I tried not to move to fast or make a sound. I reached for the door because the cat was right by the light and I didn’t want to get my eyes clawed out. I opened the door and my heart almost exploded out of my chest as I went into hysterics holding back gasps of relief and feelings of embarrassment. It was only the bag of office supplies. It was crumpled in such a way that it looked like a cat sitting looking out the window with two ears and everything. I chastised myself a few times, tiptoed to the bathroom and cursed as I closed the door and the toddler made a few whimpers. Luckily for me my nonsense did not wake him up and I was able to finally go to sleep.

I dreamt that I changed my hair color to red and had a hairdo similar to Jessica rabbit. I think I was about to be in a roller derby tournament when the alarm sounded at 5:45am. So much for sleep.

Today I wished for my bed while sitting through a torturous meeting looking at web design comps for a project I will not be a part of in three more weeks. Tomorrow I need to get some of my TO DO list crossed off and finish mapping out processes so that I can transition some responsibilities to internal folks while a replacement is found.

Tonight I think I will unpack that bag of office supplies otherwise I might think a Racoon got in the room tonight or maybe a troll.

And now a series of comics!

This has been my life the last few weeks:

Why do marketing people make things so difficult. I have dealt with the above many times.

Can you figure out why the above is in here?

Thank you systemcomic!

No more cubicle celebrations for me people. It was a hard/sad/scary decision to make but I am going to work from home. I worked with some great folks but for many reasons kids/health/money etc… I had to take a really promising opportunity. Do not fret I will continue to blog about CSS disasters, RightNow CX fun (as I will still be playing in the CRM space) and all sorts of the usual fun stuff.

This final comic below is for you to make of it what you will:

Shameless self promotion

I have been playing with different themes and even reached out to the artist in Brooklyn who designed a twitter theme I love. Maren if you are reading this I would love permission to use your work on my blog.

So there are some things changing for me and I will be sure to share more when I can. For now I thought I would do some shameless self promotion. The below webinars feature me:

Pain is exhausting! UPS drops and runs!

I can’t sleep. My mind has been racing for days, so much is going on. I have been making changes to the layout at home, fixing up the boys room, commandeering their desk for my own use since in their room it exists only to take up space and collect junk on top of it. Trying to get caught up at work, getting all the ducks in a row, my to do list keeps growing instead of shrinking. I am feeling the stress. On top of all that the unexplained abdominal pain is just there all the time now. Well anytime I eat for hours afterwards but mostly at night.

In Long Island another source of constant Pain is UPS. The never knock and sometimes they leave stuff in my bushes and I have to search for it. There is always someone home even when there is no car in the driveway but they are too lazy to even bother. I am very fond of the below comic because I have experienced this a few times and actually went to the depot one time after calling all over to get through to dispatch and telling them that I will be there when the driver returns for the evening. My quest was successful.

I can completely relate to how Dilbert feels

Enough Said!

Today I am in analytics HELL! Syntax changes after upgrades that are undocumented are not very nice Right Now!

Dell responded to me via twitter and the unknown abdominal pain!

The day I wrote the last post about Dell I actually received a response through twitter and although I am still completely annoyed by the entire debacle I have been sufficiently pacified. I don’t know that I will buy from you again anytime soon but who can say for sure. Hopefully my Alienware desktop and laptop will live up to their work horse reputations and stick around for a while.

So I have been absent as some of you may have noticed. This was due to a 4 day stint in the hospital that ended with more questions, inconclusive test results and on going albeit lessened abdominal pain. They have so far ruled out kidney stones, gall bladder, intestinal obstruction and now investigating some other intestinal problems or gynecological issues. Let the tests and Dr. visits begin.

As a result of this I am terribly swamped at work, more so than usual despite me logging on from the hospital and handling any urgent issues.

In other news my Disney Vacation is quickly approaching. The kids have been prepping by getting their fill of Disney movies. I have been prepping by purchasing sunblock, summer clothes, bonine (for motion sickness) and making meal reservations.

I will also be going camping in a couple of weeks with the cub scouts – no technology allowed, bummer.

Sorry this one was short and sweet but work beckons.
